The Power of Place: What Waking Up in Another Country Taught Me about Alignment

Jun 27, 2025

We didn’t come to Merida on vacation.
We came because something wasn’t working.

Phil had just lost his job. And instead of seeing that as a setback, I saw an opening. I had been feeling the urge to go somewhere new—not just to visit, but to live differently. I didn’t know exactly what I was chasing, but I knew I wouldn’t find it in the same environment I’d been in. I needed something else. A different kind of air. A different frequency. Something that could hold the weight of the life we were trying to create.

We landed on Tuesday. But I woke up on Wednesday in a new dimension.

That first morning wasn’t just beautiful. It was transformational. I felt elevated. Lifted. Lighter. Like my spirit had finally caught up with what my body had been craving. It wasn’t just that I was in a new place. It was that I had shifted.

What dropped in my spirit was this:

Alignment happens in order.
First, purpose.
Then, person.
Then, place.

That’s the sequence.
You find out what you were created for. That’s purpose.
Then you grow. You heal. You discipline yourself. You stretch into the woman who can carry it. That’s person.
But even if you get both of those right—if your environment is wrong, it will still feel hard. It’ll still feel off. It’ll still feel like something sacred is being choked out by the weight of where you are.

Place matters.
It’s the final piece that activates the rest.
It’s the alignment you didn’t know you needed until you finally feel what it’s like to breathe in the right frequency.

Trying to build something holy in a place that was never designed to hold it—that’s where burnout lives. That’s where resistance lives. That’s where the friction is constant and the joy is rare. And the worst part is, you start to think that’s normal.

But normal is relative.
Normal is shaped by where you’ve been, not where you’re going.
There are places where rest is sacred. Places where creativity is currency. Places where your presence is celebrated, not tolerated.
You don’t know what’s available until you leave the environment that taught you to settle.

And this isn’t just about a city.
Place is physical, yes—but it’s also mental. Emotional. Spiritual. Dimensional.
You can be stuck in a place that has nothing to do with geography.
You can be in the wrong place in your mind, in your routine, in your relationship with time, with God, with yourself.

And sometimes the reason we don’t move is because the discomfort of the unknown feels riskier than the dysfunction we’ve gotten used to.
But familiarity doesn’t equal alignment.
And comfort doesn’t equal peace.

Being here is stretching us.
Everything is different. Everything is in Spanish. We know almost no one. The systems are unfamiliar. But this is the most alive I’ve felt in a long time.
There’s no more compartmentalizing.
Here, it’s all integrated.
Work. Rest. Reflection. Creation.
It all flows. And that flow feels like a yes from Heaven.

Back home, I was running on rhythm-less hustle.
Same start time. Same habits. Same weight.
But here? I feel tuned in to the rhythm of nature.
The rhythm of Spirit.
The rhythm of me.

So no, I don’t have a 10-step plan. I’m only on Day Three.
But what I know for sure is this:

You can do the inner work. You can answer your calling.
But if the place is wrong—everything else will feel wrong, too.

And you don’t have to stay there.

You can choose a different place.
A place that matches who you’ve become.
A place that frees you.
A place that fits.

Because the right place doesn’t make you shrink.
It makes you rise.

So now I’m asking you—what place are you still trying to force?
What purpose are you trying to fulfill in an environment that doesn’t match your evolution?
What are you calling “normal” just because you haven’t seen anything else?

You owe it to yourself to find your rhythm.
To get in position.
To step into the place—physical or spiritual—that allows you to rise without resistance.

Take a moment.
Check in with your alignment.

Are you clear on your purpose?
Are you becoming the woman who can carry it?
And if so—does your current place reflect that version of you?

If not… maybe it’s time to move.
